This plant tolerates a wide variety of well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. It will tolerate almost full shade but growth is slow and elongated. Use this plant for edging, rock gardens, containers, woodland settings or as a ground cover. It is drought and deer tolerant, moderately salt-tolerant, and can be used as a lawn alternative but does not tolerate foot traffic well. This low-maintenance evergreen needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Pruning old foliage, preferably before spring, is recommended to maintain a well-groomed appearance. This perennial evergreen has vivid green foliage that blooms numerous blue spikes followed by groups of black berries in the fall. Its weeping blades grow 1-2 feet tall.
