Bio Comb Fluidized Bio Media (BC-5) is a low-maintenance biological filtration media that converts toxic ammonia from fish waste into beneficial nitrates, supplying nitrogen for aquatic plants. Unlike static media, the Bio Comb pieces stay suspended and move in the filter, allowing outer layers of dead or decaying bacteria to slough off and be replaced by fresh blooms of ammonia-consuming bacteria. Internal cavities in the media act as protected incubators, supporting ongoing production of new bacteria throughout the colony. Because the media is fluidized in water, it is effectively self-cleaning and eliminates the frequent removal and scrubbing required for static media such as rock, mats, or foam.
