Advanced autofocus: the camera employs Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with 1053 automatic AF points that cover the entire sensor area. This phase-detection focusing system provides rapid, precise AF, with intelligent subject detection and tracking for people, animals, and vehicles. The AF can automatically lock onto subjects and keep them sharp during burst shooting and video, and its low-luminance limit focuses down to -6.5 EV for reliable performance in dim conditions. Flexible video workflows: the R8 offers two 10-bit recording options — HDR PQ and Canon Log 3. HDR PQ produces a 10-bit HDR file that can be viewed on HDR-capable TVs, monitors, and smartphones without additional grading. Canon Log 3 records a 10-bit log file for extensive highlight and shadow recovery and creative color grading during post-production. Practical framing and social-ready features: movie rotation metadata can be set while recording or afterwards so clips play correctly in vertical orientation on smartphones. The Aspect Markers function overlays guides for various aspect ratios, helping you compose shots intended for different social platforms and deliverables.
