Carolina Stem Challenge: Solar Water Distillation Kit

Build excitement around water distillation by allowing students to design, construct, and test their own water distillation apparatus. Students gain hands-on experience with evaporation and distillation while using an incandescent light source to model solar energy. They also gain real-world experience using distillation to remove contaminants (salt) from water. Students compete to produce the most contaminant-free water in a 24-hr period. Kit equips 30 students working in pairs.
