Compadre Zoysia Grass Seed — 2 Lbs.

Tested 2013. Compadre Zoysia is a seeded zoysia variety suited for a wide range of turf projects — from home lawns to golf course tees, fairways & roughs, sports fields, schools and parks. Purchased in large volumes to offer savings, this cultivar is an excellent substitute for common seeded zoysias and some vegetative varieties. Seeding & planting window: For new turf, broadcast Compadre Zoysia grass seed at 1 - 2 pounds per 1,000 square feet or 40 - 80 lbs/acre. Sow when the soil temperature reaches 70 degrees in spring and continue up to a minimum of 10 weeks before frost in fall. Planting technique & germination: Zoysia seed requires light to germinate, so broadcast the seed at or very near the soil surface and incorporate lightly with raking, a light mulch covering or a roller. A planting depth of 1/4 inch (5 mm) or shallower produces the best results; deeper placement delays germination and establishment. Keep the seeded area moist with frequent, light water applications until seedlings are established. A soil temperature of 70 - 80 deg.F (18-25 deg.C) at a 2 inch depth promotes the quickest germination. Optimum soil pH is between 6.5 and 7.0. Establishment & spread: All zoysia varieties spread by surface stolons and underground rhizomes; the rhizomes contribute to better winter survival and drought tolerance. Compadre establishes more quickly and uniformly than plugs or sprigs, providing full turf cover in 10 to 14 weeks while costing far less than sod, plugs or sprigs. Mowing & maintenance: Once established, Compadre Zoysia is typically mowed weekly at heights between 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 inches depending on use. With more frequent clipping, finer-textured seeded zoysias can be maintained at lower heights — as low as 3/8 inch (9 mm). Increased mowing frequency also promotes greater turf density. Turf characteristics & performance: Compadre produces a medium to medium-fine textured turf similar to Meyer vegetative zoysia when seeded thickly. It is noted for a darker green color, improved density, earlier spring green-up and longer-lasting fall color. The variety tolerates drought, salt and other stresses and shows resistance to many diseases and insects.
