Dalkeith Subterranean Clover Seed - 20 Lbs.

Overview: Dalkeith (Trifolium subterraneum ssp. Subterraneum) is an Australian-developed cool-season clover suited for pasture, wildlife cover and mixtures with annual rye. It acts as a reliable pasture clover with strong reseeding ability and performs well in low-rainfall cropping rotations. Maturity and habit: Dalkeith has a prostrate to semi-erect (semi erect) growth form and reaches flowering in 97 days to flowering (Perth). Its early maturity means it needs a minimum growing season of four months. Soil and climate suitability: This variety persists across a range of soil types and tolerates light to heavy soils that are moderately well drained. Recommended soil pH is 5.0-7.0. It is well adapted to temperate regions receiving 14 to 24 inches of rainfall and has established well in 350 to 600mm rainfall zones. Note: not recommended for high rainfall areas. Seed and persistence: Dalkeith exhibits good early root growth and establishment and carries high hard seed levels, which support persistence and reseeding (reseeding rate 45%). Reseeding improves if pastures are grazed after establishment, helping build a substantial seed reserve in the soil for multiple seasons. While it demonstrates good persistence overall, it is outclassed by Losa. Pest and variety notes: Dalkeith is a superior replacement for Daliak and is considered an improvement over Mt. Barker in many situations. It can be susceptible to several diseases, most commonly where rainfall is higher. Planting guidelines: Sow in the fall after the rains. Seeding rates for a dense stand: Dry - 14-22 Lbs. per 2.5 acres; Irrigated - 22-33 Lbs. per 2.5 acre; Mixed - 9 to 22 Lbs. per 2.5 acres. Plant seed 1/3 to 1/2 inches deep. Ensure the seedbed or growth area is moist and free of grass before sowing.
