Evidence Audio SIS/Monorail Solderless Patch Cable Kit, 5 ft.

The Monorail cable uses a pure, solid IGL copper conductor that is intentionally softer than the SIS plug’s brass construction. The SIS plug itself is made from brass (as most high-quality plugs are made from a brass alloy because pure copper would be too soft for use as a plug). Inside the tip of the SIS plug there are precisely machined threads with a specific size and pitch. Those internal threads are designed to cut and reform the soft copper conductor as the plug is rotated around the cable several times. To install, push the prepared Monorail cable into the SIS plug so the soft copper finds the hole. When you rotate the plug one or two turns, the harder brass core engages and cuts into the copper conductor. After you feel that engagement, place the cap on and screw the SIS plug into the cap. This motion pulls the soft copper deeper into the SIS core and compresses the ground against the SIS body to establish ground contact. The connection becomes airtight because the copper deforms inside the plug, expelling air from the joint, and the red jacket is tightly sealed at the exit. That secure deformation prevents the cable from pulling out of the plug and keeps the cap from loosening. The resulting tip-to-core interface is also airtight and, in many respects, superior to a soldered joint. If you unscrew the SIS plug and remove the Monorail cable, you can clearly see how the soft copper has been formed to precisely mate with the SIS core.
