Hand-Painted Resin Nefertiti Bust Statue, 18H in.
Nefertiti (ca. 1370 BC - ca. 1330 BC) served as the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. She and Akhenaten are remembered for a dramatic religious shift that promoted exclusive worship of one deity, Aten, or the sun disc. Nefertiti held numerous official epithets, including Hereditary Princess (iryt-p`t), Great of Praises (wrt-hzwt), Lady of Grace (nbt-im3t), Sweet of Love (bnrt-mrwt), Lady of The Two Lands (nbt-t3wy), Main King's Wife, his beloved (hmt-niswt-'3t meryt.f), Great King's Wife, his beloved (hmt-niswt-wrt meryt.f), Lady of all Women (hnwt-hmwt-nbwt), and Mistress of Upper and Lower Egypt (hnwt-Shm'w-mhw).[1] Her painted limestone bust, now housed in Berlin's Neues Museum, became an iconic image and is one of the most frequently reproduced pieces from ancient Egypt. The work is attributed to the sculptor Thutmose and was discovered in his workshop. Art historians highlight the bust for demonstrating the ancient Egyptians' advanced grasp of realistic facial proportions. This 18H in. resin replica is hand painted to reflect the appearance of the famous original, and the scholarly discussion about Nefertiti continues — some researchers propose she briefly ruled as Neferneferuaten after Akhenaten's death and prior to Tutankhamun's accession, though that identification remains debated.
