This DVD-ROM drive reads DVD media ranging from 4.7 GB up to 8.5 GB and also supports standard stamped DVDs as well as CD-R and CD-RW formats. With the proper software utilities it can write to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD +R/RW, and DVD -R/RW media. For Microsoft® operating systems the necessary recording software is included on the supplied Roxio software disk; other operating systems require an operating system-specific utility to enable writing functionality. The drive is built to handle the DVD-ROM reading capabilities described above.
