Cincinnati Bengals The Cincinnati Bengals are a professional football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio, competing in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the AFC North division. Founded in 1968 by legendary coach Paul Brown, the franchise quickly established itself as a competitive team, making the playoffs by 1970 and reaching its first Super Bowl in 1981 (Super Bowl XVI). Known for their orange-and-black tiger-striped helmets and uniforms, the Bengals have built a strong regional and national identity. The Bengals have appeared in the Super Bowl three times: XVI (1981) and XXIII (1988), both close losses to the San Francisco 49ers, and LVI (2021), a narrow defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. Despite these heartbreaks, the team has produced some of the NFL’s most memorable players, including Ken Anderson, Boomer Esiason, Anthony Muñoz (a Hall of Fame offensive lineman), and wide receivers Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) and A.J. Green. Under head coach Zac Taylor and led by star quarterback Joe Burrow and dynamic wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, the Bengals have experienced a dramatic resurgence in the 2020s. Their explosive offense and improved defense have made them consistent contenders in the AFC, highlighted by their run to the Super Bowl in the 2021 season and multiple deep playoff appearances. With a history marked by resilience, legendary players, and a recent revival, the Bengals have evolved from a team of near-misses to one of the NFL’s most exciting and competitive franchises. Their commitment to building around young talent and fostering a winning culture has positioned them as a perennial contender in the modern NFL Round Silver
