Built for versatility and all-around performance, the Z 6 balances speed, resolution and low-light capability in a lightweight mirrorless body. Its large Z mount and short 16 mm flange focal distance allow NIKKOR Z lenses to gather more light and deliver corner-to-corner sharpness even at the widest apertures — reducing the need to stop down. The camera also integrates smoothly with Nikon’s DSLR ecosystem, letting you use F‑Mount NIKKOR glass alongside the new Z‑mount lineup. Use the optional Mount Adapter FTZ to bring over lens versatility: more than 90 F‑Mount NIKKOR lenses retain their resolving power, functionality and sharpness while gaining access to the Z 6’s features such as in-body VR, silent shooting, its PDAF focusing system*, and 4K video. In total, approximately 360 F‑Mount NIKKOR lenses can be mounted and used. Autofocus and tracking have been rethought for speed and accuracy. The sensor provides 273 on-sensor PDAF points that cover roughly 90% of the frame horizontally and vertically, and 231 on-sensor PDAF points are used for video in FX-based movie format with single-point AF. A hybrid autofocus approach switches between focal-plane phase-detect AF and contrast-detect AF to fine-tune focus, while light-shielding phase-detection pixels are arranged to preserve light and maintain precise AF even in dim conditions. Subject tracking is improved for real-world shooting: Auto Area AF can find and follow a face in a crowd, tracking upper-body position as needed and preserving focus when a subject briefly looks away or leaves the frame. The EVF experience is enhanced by a 3.6M‑DOT QUAD VGA viewfinder coupled with Nikon optics, including aspherical elements and a fluorine coating, delivering minimal lag and blackout, approximately 100% frame coverage, strong corner-to-corner clarity and a magnified feel similar to an optical finder for both stills and video. Information is presented via a new icon-driven, customizable display so important shooting details stay visible without distracting from the viewfinder.
