Overview: The Sony a7 III combines a full-frame imaging system with advanced processing to deliver high-quality results across stills and video. It features a 24.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor with a back-illuminated design and the BIONZ X image processing engine paired with front-end LSI. This hardware combination provides a data readout speed that is two times faster6 and data processing capability that is 1.8 times higher. Image sensor and speed: The 35-mm full-frame CMOS image sensor’s back-illuminated structure improves light capture and, together with a copper wiring layer, enables very fast data transfer while keeping noise to a minimum for detailed images. Sensitivity and noise control: Standard ISO range is extended to ISO 100-51200 (expandable to ISO 50-2048007 for stills), and Sony’s Detail Reproduction and Area-specific Noise Reduction technologies preserve fine detail while reducing noise, delivering solid performance in mid-to-high sensitivity shooting. Dynamic range and color: A revamped sensor and processor afford an approx. 15-stop dynamic range at low sensitivities for smooth gradation from shadows to highlights.
