The Sony a7 III pairs a redesigned sensor architecture with fast processing to deliver a versatile camera for both stills and motion work. At its core is a 24.2MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor driven by the BIONZ X processor, offering improved speed and enhanced low-light performance. The body has been refined as well, featuring a new touchscreen LCD, a higher-performance EVF, an expanded battery for longer runtime, and dual memory card slots. For video, the a7 III records internally in UHD 4K up to 30 fps using 2.4x oversampling for greater detail, with the option of full pixel readout to reduce moiré and aliasing. Full HD 1080p capture is available up to 120 fps. Both 4K and FHD footage can be recorded in the 100 Mb/s XAVC S format within an MP4 wrapper using 4:2:0 sampling. Extensive image control is provided via customizable color and gamma settings, letting you tweak parameters such as gamma, black level, knee, and color level. The camera also supports the S-Log2 Gamma Curve used on Sony's higher-end Cinema cameras, which can compress up to 1300% more dynamic range into the video signal compared to traditional REC709, giving greater latitude in post-production.
