Overview: The Sony a6700 (ILCE-6700) is a compact, high-performance APS-C mirrorless camera built around a 26.01 effective megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor. Its back-illuminated design, gapless on-chip lenses and AR coating (anti-reflection seal glass) deliver exceptional sensitivity, resolution and wide dynamic range for both stills and movies. Image Processing & Quality: Powered by the BIONZ XR engine with up to eight times more processing capability than previous generations, the a6700 produces natural gradations and accurate color with low noise. Standard sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 32000, enabling preserved highlights and shadow detail in high-contrast scenes. Selectable RAW options include compressed and lossless compressed RAW, and lighter-quality choices exist for JPEG and HEIF to reduce file sizes when needed. AI, Autofocus & Tracking: An integrated AI processing unit improves subject recognition and tracking. Human pose estimation uses learned body/posture data for better eye, head and body detection—allowing reliable lock and tracking even when faces are obscured or turned away. Recognition extends beyond people and pets to birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes. Heads and bodies are identified in addition to eyes for Human and Animal modes, and Bird recognition now includes head and body tracking too. Compared to the a6600, animal recognition performance is more than 40% higher. Enhanced AI-based Real-time Tracking simplifies complex shooting situations and maintains focus on subjects wearing helmets or facing away. Exposure & Creative Controls: The a6700 inherits an AE algorithm refined from Sony’s full-frame models to accurately detect skin tones and deliver consistent exposure for both stills and movies across varied lighting — from sunlight to stadium or theater lighting. Creative Look provides 10 preset styles that can be fine-tuned using 8 adjustable parameters, so you can set a mood in-camera for stills, movies or live streaming. Stabilization & Precision: A 5-axis in-body optical image stabilization system, supported by precision gyro sensors, offers up to 5-steps of shake compensation. The camera’s design and control enhancements enable detection and correction down to the single-pixel level, fully leveraging the 26.01 megapixel resolution to preserve fine detail. Video Capabilities: The a6700 records QFHD 4K (3840 x 2160) up to 60p (50p) using Sony’s 6K oversampling to yield exceptionally detailed 4K footage. It supports high-quality XAVC S-I (All-Intra) and XAVC HS formats with 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling. For high-frame-rate capture, the camera can record 4K at up to 120p (100p) for smooth slow-motion and creative motion effects; S&Q mode lets you record slow or quick motion natively in-camera. S-Cinetone is included for cinematic color and natural skin tones, and S-Log3 offers 14+ stops of latitude for flexible color grading. Movie-Focused Features: AI-based Real-time Tracking extends to movie shooting with improved eye and subject tracking. Active Mode further boosts handheld movie stability by optically compensating measured camera shake, delivering strong stabilization even when shooting 4K22. Ergonomics & Controls: The a6700 is designed for portability without sacrificing handling. An improved grip gives a more secure, comfortable hold for both stills and video. Touch operation lets you select focus points, initiate Touch Tracking, trigger the shutter and access quick settings by swiping. The Fn menu is available via swipe-up, and playback supports intuitive pinch/zoom and tap gestures. Viewfinder & Menus: A high-performance XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approx. 2.36 million dots and approx. 1.07x magnification offers clear, bright viewing. The finder is about twice as bright as the a6600 and provides a wider 33-degree viewing angle. You can set the viewfinder frame rate to 120 fps for reduced display motion blur when tracking moving subjects. The menu structure has been refined based on pro feedback and mirrors the layout of Sony’s full-frame a-series models for faster access to key shooting parameters; commonly used menus can be assigned to a custom key.
