Sun Stone Discovered in 1790 CE in the central plaza of Mexico City, this ornately carved basalt stone once originated as part of the Temple Mayor. The stone would have originally laid on the ground flat, and would have been possibly anointed with sacrifices. Carved in the center is a face of several solar gods and is surrounded at four points by other sun gods. The sun stone currently resides in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
